Tracy Pollan, Michael J. Fox’s wife, whom he married in 1988. Their marriage, however, would not get off to the best of beginnings when he was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition a few years later. The dreadful prognosis, however, did not sever their relationship. They’ve been sharing that incredible friendship for 33 years. Here’s how Fox and his wife dealt with adversity while raising a wonderful family.
Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan’s Long-Lasting Wedding
In the summer of 1985, Fox and Pollan first met. He was a Family Ties cast member, and they initially met when she auditioned for the program. She made it through the tryouts, and they worked together for a season. They did not, however, begin dating right away. It wasn’t until they were cast in the 1987 picture Bright Lights, Big City that they reunited. They dated for a year before marrying on July 16, 1988. Fox kept every tabloid interested in their wedding at bay, including The National Inquirer, Globe, and People magazine, among others.
Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease three years later, in 1991. It was a devastating blow for him, both emotionally and professionally, since he was just 29 years old. Pollan, on the other hand, was so powerful when he told the news to his wife that her response at the time still brought him to tears 30 years later. In November 2020, he told TODAY’s Willie Geist, “One of the reasons I’ll always admire Tracy for is that she didn’t flinch at that time.”
“It’s absolutely wonderful to have a companion,” he stated of Pollan’s presence in his life. Fox suffered from alcoholism after his diagnosis, but Pollan remained by his side. When questioned by People magazine about their secret to a long marriage, she said that they had great regard for one another. “All we have to do is give each other the benefit of the doubt,” Pollan said. “He thinks I’m doing my best.”
Fox said.
“Find the finest things about yourself and the best things about life, and celebrate them,”
When the couple initially began dating, one of the things that connected them was their sense of humor. That, in turn, was what kept their relationship continuing. She was always there for him while he was struggling with the condition. She was always making him chuckle. Her attitude to problems was to laugh first, then deal with the problem. They complimented each other as well. She admired his positivity and thought it would be a wonderful complement to her life. He could be positive since he was constantly under the impression that she had everything under control.

When Fox proposed to Pollan on December 26, 1987, he was unconcerned about her rejection. He was more worried about how to keep their wedding a secret. Initially, it was just a matter of privacy. However, it became a concern of security in February 1988. A young lady began sending Fox and Pollan frightening notes. Nonetheless, they chose to marry. Tracy married a few months later, in July, at the modest West Mountain Inn in Arlington, Vermont. They were such a hot pair at the time that even though he kept the wedding date and location a secret, the paparazzi discovered their wedding anyway. They even used helicopters to track it down.

Fox was dissatisfied with the media coverage of his wedding. A year later, he exacted his vengeance with his own magazine essay.
“Michael J. Fox’s Nuptials in Hell,” he dubbed the Esquire story as he tore through every source, desperate enough not to let him and his wife enjoy a serene wedding. In the story, he said that the publications resorted to bribes, lying, and other deceptions in order to get a photograph of him and Pollan in their wedding gowns.
His publicist assisted him in preparing for The National Inquirer’s plot to expose his private ceremony, and he also recruited a security squad. After failing to photograph the event, numerous media dubbed his wedding a “security circus” and the couple “paranoid.” Fox dismissed the claims as media fabrications. The couple currently has four children: son Sam Michael Fox (born on May 31, 1989), twin girls Aquinnah Kathleen Fox and Schuyler Frances Fox (born on February 15, 1995), and daughter Esme Annabelle Fox (born on February 15, 1995).
