Following his spectacular introduction into the MCU with last year’s big hit, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Simu Liu has been picked for his next project. Variety reports that the actor will join the cast of Barbie in an unspecified capacity. Greta Gerwig will direct the picture she co-wrote with her long-term partner Noah Baumbach. A lot of information concerning the storyline has been kept under wraps.
Simu Liu has appeared in how many films before joining Gerwig’s Barbie?
Simu Liu’s spectacular climb to stardom has served as an inspiration to many. Before quitting his job as an accountant, this Chinese immigrant worked as a model for iStock’s royalty-free stock photos. In 2015, Liu appeared as a stunt double in three episodes of Heroes Reborn. His strong body and deft hands benefited him in getting the role. He had previously worked as one of Guillermo del Toro’s “bunch of Asian extras” in Pacific Rim. He even featured as a guest star on the 100th episode of Fresh Off the Boat.

The 32-year-old didn’t get his big break until 2016 with CBS’ Kim’s Convenience. His depiction of Jung Kim, a rebellious teenager and the son of the show’s family, gained him considerable recognition from fans and reviewers alike. Simu Liu is a brilliant scriptwriter as well as an exceptional performer. He also contributed to the narrative for the second season of Blood and Water, in which he also starred. Despite its short duration, the program garnered him ACTRA and Canadian Screen Awards in 2017.
However, his role and representation of the Asian community in Marvel’s film last year was the peak of his career for the Harbin, China native. Shang-Chi, the newest Marvel hero, has become the highest-rated Marvel Studios film ever on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 98 percent audience score.

Barbie will be played by Margot Robbie, while Ken, her ‘boy toy,’ will be played by Ryan Gosling. It’s unknown who Liu or newcomer America Ferrera will portray in the live-action feature. Liu’s comic timing shines through in his hosting duties on Saturday Night Live. Fans will be thrilled just to see him in a scene with Gosling’s Ken and Robbie’s Barbie, presumably partying, and hopefully, they’ll discover who he’ll be portraying before filming starts.
