Curtis “50 Cent” Johnson Jackson recently stated that he would not extend his contract with Starz, which is home to programs like the Power series, and fans were overjoyed at the potential of fresh opportunities for the American rapper, actor, and producer. Others questioned the continuation of the Power series. On September 16, 50 Cent announced his departure from Starz through social media. His message said,
“I’d want to thank BET for awarding me Hustler of the Year. No one from the music industry has achieved success in television production. I currently have 25 programs and have made some significant agreements outside of television. My contract with STARZ expires tomorrow.”
According to Deadline Hollywood, he’s considering proposals from other studios and streaming services for his G-Unit Film & Television, which presently has 25 projects in the works. This signals the end of 50 Cent’s ten-year relationship with Starz.
While the Power series, which starred the rapper as well as the executive producer, ended in 2020, it was extended into three subsequent spin-offs. Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force all include him as an executive producer. The third season of both Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book III: Raising Kanan has been renewed. Power Book IV: Force has also been renewed for a second season. With 50 Cent leaving the ship, fans are concerned about the fate of the aforementioned series. Fans on Twitter and Instagram reacted positively to the news that 50 Cent was leaving Starz to build his company. While many have recognized the imminent blow that Starz may face, others are apprehensive about the future of popular programs like the Power series spin-offs. Other fans suggested the names of prospective streaming services with which 50 Cent’s G-Unit Film & Television would collaborate in the near future.
